Tuning Notes:

Because this upgraded solenoid affects the way that your vehicle controls boost, it is always recommended that you consult with a tuner immediately following installation. Design
We began by mapping the hood and engine bay for a number of test vehicles in 3D CAD. From there, a lifting linkage was designed, analyzed, prototyped and tested. Our in-house 3D printer facilitated a fast, efficient design cycle and we were able to move into production using some of the worlds most advanced CNC machining equipment. What that means for you is a system that will fit and operate correctly, every single time, for years to come. The fender ball studs were also designed specifically for the application, to adapt our high-quality, American Made struts to the metric threads found on your Subaru. What about those struts, you ask? They're beefy. Custom built to our exacting specifications, these struts feature a large diameter body that provides excellent opening force without sacrificing smoothness and control.

Materials
With the use and exposure that a hood strut kit will see on a regular basis, material selection and finishing options are critically important. All brackets are machined from locally sourced 6061 Aluminum. After an initial quality inspection, each part is anodized with a sleek, black finish. The threaded ball studs are machined from Stainless Steel to ensure that no potentially corrosive material is being introduced to your vehicles chassis. The next key component is the struts themselves. More specifically, these are referred to as gas springs. Manufactured in the USA, these are of the highest quality and are used by OEMs around the world. These custom valved units (to perfectly match the weight of the WRX and STI hoods) are paired with black zinc hardware and a quick-release ball and socket. Last, but certainly not least, is the included hardware. All hardware is grade 8.8 or higher and black zinc coated for longevity.

How it works:

The intake air in your engine travels through the airbox into the turbo, then into the aluminum intake manifold. The air exits the intake manifold and goes directly into the engine.

While the intake air is within the intake manifold it picks up alot of heat from the aluminum intake manifold. This added heat reduces air density thus reducing engine power capabilities.In stock form your engine has a steel gasket between the intake manifold and engine which allows the heat from the engine to quickly transfer into the intake manifold. By replacing this steel gasket with the GrimmSpeed™ Phenolic Spacer you are greatly reducing the transfer of engine heat into the intake manifold.Phenolic Spacers are able to withstand 500+ degrees F. Subaru engines run at the hotter end of operation around 200 degrees F, so the Phenolic Spacer is well within its max running temperature.
